Thus the greenery. And it makes the holidays match up with the religious figures. If it were the pope, then why specifically leprechauns? Santa would have been included, maybe a witch for Halloween vs. All Saints' Day (I know they aren't technically the same day, but they are related, and who gives a shit about All Saints' Day, amirite?), perhaps one of the strippers clad in beads for Mardi Gras, so on and so forth. Just saying the joke works better as St. Patrick, and as the author seems to think out his jokes very thoroughly, so I believe this is the correct interpretation. Thanks for the time.
