I don’t know the backstory exactly, but I think the story is an action movie (comic) version of animals being transfixed by sudden vehicle lights. So watch out while driving through night in a woody area/woodlands, a rabbit might not be a problem (sorry PETA) but a deer/moose… now that’s a different story.
It happend almost to me and my father, it was in the early morning in a sharp road bend and there where about two-three of them there. Thank Dog that stupid animal was next to the road and not on it. :/
most of wild animals are somehow shocked and stay still when they see some bright light. that’s why you hit them on the road so often….. (well I guess that’s it)

For some reason, I totally missed the 13th panel. Makes a BIT more sense now.
It’s subtle shit, needs to be read a few times, but the characterisation, the faces, the sense of motion. There! I jizzed in my pants. Well done mate.

Rabbit caught in the headlights – this is brilliant.
For the people who don’t get it- I think it’s in reference to the fact that small critters always seem to get in front of headlights and freeze. A tractor would be going incredibly slowly, so the idea behind it is that the rabbit freezes and stands there long enough to get run over by a slow-moving tractor, in spite of having the upperhand immediately beforehand. Quite clever if you ask me, though not as funny if you don’t get it without an explanation.
Notice, the mouse got frozen too, but was helped by the other mouse so was able to get away.

Further explanation:Try driving at night and meet a rabbit. It never seems to be able to find the side of the road. Instead it just stands in the middle looking totally pathetic.
